According to paragraph 8 of the Governor's despatch at No.16, there were only 5 divorce decrees made by the Chief Justice during the period of internment, 2 decrees nisi and 3 decrees absolute. In view of this, I was wondering whether it would not be better to say in the despatch that if it is quite certain that these are the only parties concerned, we should have no objection to their being informed of the doubts entertained as to the validity of the decrees, both decrees nisi and decrees absolute, and that subject to any representations which they may
it wish to make as to their own personal status, is not proposed to enact any legislation to remove those doubts.
I am not quite sure whether the pencilled amendment at the end of the post-cript to Mr. Mervyn Jones' minute of the 25th November is correct. Perhaps you would confirm this.
